Ad| Press Event. Just before my trip to Thailand, I was invited over to The Harrogate Spa * which is part of The Doubletree by Hilton Majestic Hotel. It had recently undergone a major refurbishment and had just opened its doors again! I took along my friend Nicola on a Monday night to go try out the facilities and have a bit of a relax before the madness of a long haul trip we’d booked pretty last minute considering!

Arrival

entrance to the spa

You can access The Harrogate Spa through the hotel which is so beautiful (right-hand side picture below). There’s a waiting area around the reception and after that, you go into the changing rooms. The lockers were well equipped and the standard dressing gowns were a good size I would say great for up to a size 24 and they all seemed to be the same size which was nice as it means I didn’t have to ask for a larger one for once. Brownie points scored!

Swimming Pool

Water-wise there’s a swimming pool with leisurely steps leading into it and a jacuzzi. I loved the twinkly ceiling above the pool I have to say. The jacuzzi operated from a button which then had a timeout feature so we basically had a warm bath with friends for around 5 mins before it could go on again! This is pretty standard of jacuzzis but doesn’t make it any less awkward! There also an experience shower and an ice bowl which I tried out for size. Believe it or not, it was coooolllld!

Thermal Rooms

Thermal room wise there’s a rose quartz sauna you can see here. I managed to survive in this for over ten mins but I got so so hot. It was very effective but bearable I would say! There’s also a steam room next door which was super steamy so there are no photos of that one.

You can also have a mud rasul for an additional charge which we did. (We were gifted as part of our visit* ). The room is large and the experience lasts forever. I’m not sure how long- maybe half hour? It goes through the cycle of a rasul so once it’s on, it’s on. We started by applying mud then sitting on the heated tiled seats. After a set amount of time the room fills with steam and I mean fills. I had to stick my head out a couple of times to breathe so just be careful if you do suffer from any breathing difficulties. (I have asthma). Then the water comes from the ceiling for you to fully wash. I have to say my skin felt so so good and even made the steam worth it!

Treatments

treatment room- one bed and a shower to the right

We didn’t have any other treatments whilst there but the usual fayre is on offer here. The treatment rooms look lovely and there’s a fab relaxation room for afterwards too. We had to walk through the gym when we were there to get there but I’m informed there’s now a separate entrance that’s been completed to save this.

Eating

the interior of Carters Champagne bar and grill

So we were expecting canapés but actually got treated to a meal in Carters Champagne Bar and Grill in the hotel. The Harrogate Spa doesn’t have its own cafe or anything so the meals are hosted in here I believe. I did feel a bit queasy going into it so couldn’t take full advantage (lack of water and a cold!) plus my friend had a train to catch but we still squeezed in a main and dessert each. They offer an A La Carte menu and a set menu which is reasonably priced (but I can only find the standard one online).
The decor is so lush and the service was impeccable. I haven’t been treated in such a great way blog review or not in such a long time. It’s on my list to return and maybe have afternoon tea there as that looks amazing too!

So in summary, if you’re looking for a general relaxing hotel spa then The Harrogate Spa one fits the bill. I’d recommend staying in the hotel and visiting the spa and the champagne bar and grill over just booking a spa day there. As if you were to book a full day there are spas out there with more facilities for your money. If you’re a fan of a rasul though then this could still be the one for you as it was excellent. I’d give it a 7/10 as I’d prefer more rooms to occupy me, but what facilities they do have are lush as is the food!
