I know, it’s August but here I am already chatting about Autumn (again)! I just can’t help it, I like getting ahead of the game. I’ve still got a summer holiday coming up too so I need to hold back slightly so I’ve been trying to buy new things that I can wear now but will last well into Autumn and beyond.

Luckily for me, Autumn Winter 16 doesn’t look like it’s going to throw any major trends our way that weren’t already part of Spring Summer or last AW. Sports Luxe is powering through, albeit in different guises but the premise is still there. The seventies still are a big influence on the high street, and the colours associated with it- think Navy, Burgundy, Mustard and Tan. The nineties era continues to strengthen as the months are going on with platforms, chokers and backpacks driving the Nineties accessorising. The coat shape of the season looks to be a classic Mac or a seventies inspired cape. I’m not yet venturing that far as I do think it’s far to warm to be thinking about heavy coats! Metallics of any colour but especially silver look to be taking over- I’ve got my eye on more than one metallic pleated silky skirt already. Also my fave material from last Autumn Winter, velvet, is also making a return and I cannot wait to get my navy velvet dress back out again. See, I just can’t help getting carried away!

So I’ll get back to my point, I’m choosing the Bardot neckline which is going to continue into Autumn (also watch out for its sister, the sweetheart slightly off the shoulder neckline which is tipped to be the TOP neckline for AW), the trusty bomber jacket in a gorgeous non-sweaty suitable for cooler summers eves- cotton material, and my fave accessory of the moment- a  choker.

Can we appreciate this perfect Khaki bomber* please? It was my second pick from the River Island Plus range that they sent me, it’s nice and lightweight so is perfect for travelling and I wore it non stop last week when the weather was a little colder.Even though it’s lightweight the material is still good quality and not flimsy at all. I love the black contrast elastic and the thick gold zip and zip pockets. I’m wearing a size 18 and it fits perfect (but I don’t like it zipped up- if you do maybe size up one to give a little more room over chunky winter knits!)

The Bardot top is also River Island Plus, I bought it myself when shopping in their sale it caught my eye on the new in section and I thought at £28 it was pretty reasonable. I’ve really struggled to get Bardot tops to be long enough for me, and when I put this on it was just perfect. No unintentional belly flashing here! The sleeves are loose and there’s a slit at the back where it dips, which makes it comfy to wear and sit in. I can even wear a strapped bra with it, I’ve got a cami top and one on here: the straps are resting on the outer edges of my shoulder quite nicely. I also think it doesn’t give me a ‘boob shelf’ like some tops in this style can.

My final pick was this rik rak choker. I made it myself. There’s a similar one on ASOS for £10, however I bought the rik rak from EBay for £2.79 for 3m (enough to make loads more!) and rose gold clasps also from eBay. I’ve made all my chokers that you’ll have seen me in and it’s great as I know they’ll fit me- which some high street ones don’t.I love this rik rak effect as I think it’s just that bit different to the standard velvet I usually wear.

Other details of this outfit are River Island Khaki Sandals (black version here in the sale for £15) which I’ve bought due to my khaki obsession and so far they’re pretty comfy, some Black treggings and a bargain seventies influenced Sale bag from Faith at Debenhams.

I’m pretty happy with my three picks, and I’m going to try and not get too excited about Autumn before the summer is over, although it will be pretty difficult I’m sure. I’ve already got my eye on the RI Plus Bardot in mustard!! Have you bought anything from the new seasons collections yet? I’d love to see them in the hope it might satisfy my Autumnal cravings!!

Also thanks to the wonderful Rachel for taking these photos for me!
