I have lots of favourite fashion memories of the 90’s, too many to actually recount really however learning to walk in patent dolly shoes cos they were in fashion thanks to Clueless, wearing co-ords and crop tops the first time around, thinking Blossom was the coolest girl ever(those hats!), plus other cringe memories, singing Ebeneezer Goode not knowing what the true meaning was and crushing on Mark Owen and later Kavana whilst reading Smash Hits. A lesser know fact is that I declared I would call my child Beyoncé as it ‘was a really pretty name’ after seeing a fashion photo shoot that the original (4!) Destiny’s Child did for Mizz magazine. This was before the fame, I would not entertain it now!! As neither would you see Beyoncé wearing Tammy Girl in any magazine soon!

Basically I’ve always been about fashion, the year mohair twin sets were fashionable with patent pastel dolly shoes and marabou , the year it was all acid colours and lime green&black were on point, the one where coloured jeans and global hyper colour shirts were in and very early on when the Sweater Shop was THE place to buy a, you guessed it , sweater! Let’s not forget headbands :big padded headbands, they lasted a few seasons! Oh and don’t get me started on beauty: glitter gel and hair mascara will always hold a special place in my heart.

So when Boohoo told me Charli XCX was launching a rather 90’s inspired collection with them I was pretty excited to see it. (Spoiler there’s an amazing pink check dress and some amazing faux fur scarves and cuffs that I just neeeeed, AND it lands TODAY! ) Then they asked me to style a 90’s outfit so I was then jumping around thinking of everything I could do! Of course it had to have a modern spin, this isn’t fancy dress time, and after thinking about a 90’s grunge look first but deciding against it,  I settled on a casual clueless vibe, less Cher, more Tai from the film.

I sent my mum on a mission and she did well, finding one of the two Kangol mini backpacks I had in the 90’s.(the other was a beautiful monochrome patent one that was more Cher and seems to have been thrown away).

So that set the Navy colour scheme and after looking through the site I came across the perfect dress! (£15)*It’s core range but goes up to an 18 so I chanced it. I then chose a long sleeved swing top (£10)* in a size 16 to go with it and make it more winter.

(I also debated both these items from the Boohoo Plus range which would have worked just as well for the outfit but had to go with the cami ( the turtle neck was out of stock!): Boohoo Plus Turtle Neck Top £10/Boohoo Plus Enya Check Dress £16. )

Other accessories needed to happen and when I saw this Cross Choker (£6)* I knew it was perfect! I then chanced a long marabou one (£5)* but it just didn’t look right (I am waiting for the opportunity to wear it soon now) and thought I needed more fluff so chose this Ava Navy Faux Fur Pom Pom (£4)* to add to the backpack.

I was gifted the bobble hat by Everything Five Pounds (similar here)* and thought it went quite well, and I added some navy chunky boots from Red Herring as I couldn’t bear to wear black with this outfit!

I actually liked how it all came together. The dress I would wear with leggings in the daytime and with a cami top for an evening. And the top is fab, I turned the dress down which made it longer and you can really see the shape of the top.

Boohoo also sent a 90’s package containing retro sweets, one of those snap bracelets, a lipsmacker and some Tazo’s (which I used to collect and I wholly attribute to my addiction to Cheetos to them whilst I was trying to get all 59)  which I just had to take photos of!
If you haven’t noticed I’m not wearing any makeup in the outfit photos, mainly because way back when I didn’t use to fill in my eyebrows, wear eyeshadow, or foundation! I literally used concealer under my eyes and that was about it, so I decided to go au natural! I don’t think it looks all that bad and for a 90’s relaxed vibe works well, I’ll soon be digging out my glitter gel no doubt?!

I do want to know what your best 90’s memory was even if it was just being born (not that I’m jealous of your youth!) or your favourite TV programme which I could go on forever about too! Leave me comments to read below or share on Twitter with me.
