Hype. I hate hype. It’s just something that gets everyone thinking something is amazing and quite often it then disappoints.

Enter : Mac’s limited edition collections.
Some get more of the H word than others, some really don’t live up to expectations (remember The Simpsons Collection!?) The frenzy these collections create is unreal, and I have fallen under the spell of them once before (I do not regret my Brooke Shield palette though !) and I did it again with the Cinderella collection. Pre release most weren’t impressed by the natural colours the collection provided, with a 6 colour eyeshadow palette with only 1 limited shade, sheer nude lipsticks and lipglasses and shimmery powders. However I started to get drawn in… I’ve always wanted the phloof! Eyeshadow shade and I have been looking for a light luminizing powder and I’ve suddenly started liking nude lipstick …. Well you see where I was going.
So when I discovered Debenhams were launching the collection online on the 17th I was in!
The long and short of it then was basically Debenhams made a mistake, sometimes they said during testing it went live and in other tweets they said they couldn’t contain themselves! But the collection went live a day early. Cue some people finding out and ordering lots (probs to go on eBay for twice the RRP- seriously check it out, crazy prices!) and others having orders cancelled.
Now here’s where it gets a little worse, Debenhams insisted it wasnt live and they had plenty of stock left after the glitch for its 6am launch.
And they didn’t. Cue lots of people getting up early to try and buy.
I was *lucky * in the fact I had a raging cold and woke up earlier than usual, which meant my usual 545 drive to work was at 5 and so I got to work with minutes to spare. ( so I hadn’t gotten out of bed early for it especially to then be disappointed)
Never have I  pressed refresh so much to no avail.
Skip forward 4 hours to the poor Twitter peeps at debenhams having to admit they did sell it all the day before.
Oops.
A torrent of abuse then followed.
Now I had big issues with people being nasty to the Debenhams customer service guys but I also had issues with some larger bloggers mocking those who were annoyed about it but expressing themselves in a polite way. Come on guys! (Also note some of these had already bought and blogged about the Cinderella items they’d already bought)
So yes I was annoyed that if they’d just communicated a little better a lot of people wouldn’t have wasted their time for a much sought after hyped up collection, and I was annoyed that everyone was ripping into each other about it too… but now that’s out there the question is was it worth it?

I managed to get the Coupe d’Chic powder and both lipsticks in Free as a Butterfly and Royal Ball
They are glorious yes. They are totally ‘me’ and the lipsticks are the perfect first Mac lipsticks for me (yes I don’t own a Mac lipstick!)
We’re they overhyped? Probably!
What’s your thoughts on Mac’s limited editions- overhyped and undersold , a way for the ebay profiteers to make a quick buck or special and worth while investing/pressing refresh loads for?!
