Long haul Chic

For me travelling is a means to an ends, and is not a fashion show (unlike the rest of life which SO is), so when I see people with playsuits, 5 inch heels or full on makeup I do wonder how they do it, how can it be practical?imagine getting down a play suit in a plane toilet?!

At this point I should note in the premier lounge at our departure airport there was a woman being told to put her shoes back on as she’d taken them off in there. They were 4 inch wedges that had already started to cause blisters for her, I did feel bad for her a little I must say, but feel my point is proven right there!

Anyway my original point is travelling should be comfy for me , or can be stylish too but comfort is my ultimate concern. It meant that meticulous planning went into my travel outfit for my long haul flight.

Shoes

Tried and tested shoes are the only thing to wear, if 5 inch heels are comfy for you then sorry I judged, crack on and wear them, but for me a nice flat shoe or sandal is perf. I went for my Rocha John Rocha lace up sandals (first featured here) as they are comfy and have 2 features, the first is that they can be loosened so as my feet swell on the plane they are still comfy, the second is they are real suede so don’t sweat my feet. The other bonus is that there’s no metal on them which is a mistake I made last year and ended up in a waistband frisk I don’t ever want to be repeated!!

Bottoms

I like to wear separates when I travel, there’s something easy about them that I like. I’ve been known to wear a skirt and legging combo so I can whip off the leggings at the other side, but now stick to elasticated trousers for full comfort. Cotton is key to avoid sticky legs at the destination and these ASOS Tall Peg Trousers (in the sale at £6 now!!) are just perfect. I rolled them up to mid calf at the airport too and they weren’t too hot and super comfy all day.

Tops

Layering is key on this one, I bought this Warehouse V Neck Crepe Swing Vest in the sale (£10) just before I went away, it’s a loose crepe so is light and airy again and loose at the front and back. I paired it with my George non wired padded bra which is my new fave, it didn’t irritate me once and still gives great shape.

My layer was another Warehouse sale bargain , it’s such a lovely soft lightweight kimono/cardy in the desert colours that I’m loving at the moment. It’s perfect for the cooler temperatures and when air con gets a little too much.

Jewellery

Must be kept minimal to avoid holding up the airport security queue (and that darned frisk if you forget!) and should be easily removable so my Misfit and a long necklace tying in the colours of my outfit were perfect.
My glasses, a clip to hold my hair off my face and my burgundy mulberry to hold my passport and tickets finished it all off nicely.

Overall I loved the outfit and it will be something I wear in the UK when I’m back too, I’m really loving muted desert colours at the moment and am loving tan, khaki and burgundy all mixed together for an Aztec desert feel it’s just more put together than neon brights for me at the moment. I’m also glad to say no frisking took place so it will be one I’ll repeat!
