Simplyhealth Event – The One Where They Watch Friends

10. Whole. Years.
That’s how longs it’s been since the last episode of Friends was aired! Millions cried when the keys were left on the kitchen counter top and the gang left to have a drink at Central Perk, and I’m sure a few still hold back the tears during its repeat across the channels. I am one of them.
So when Simplyhealth invited me and a friend to a private screening of the first four episodes I jumped at the chance!

The screening was as part of Simplyhealth’s #SHhealthysmile campaign, which has been created with the hope of getting people to smile about their health and well-being which you can read about clicking here. . It was hosted at the screening at the Leeds Trinity Centre’s, Everyman Cinema in screen 5 1/2 the intimate screening room has its own bar and seats 32 on quirky sofa’s.
I couldn’t wait to get watching! I took along Mr E as he is a big friends fan and we’d recently enjoyed watching a few repeats (although they’re never in order are they?what is that about!!) on a lazy Saturday. After chatting to a few friends that had also been invited we were led into the room and took a seat on one of the squishy couches.

I must say it did get me smiling (after the initial wave of sadness of feeling old, like, has it really been TEN Years??) and it was so funny to watch the pilot and to see the original Carol and Joeys extremely floppy hair!
My favourite part was a Pheobe in her onesie a trend setter even back in the nineties. She was always my favourite and I was always compared to her at school thanks to my kooky ways!

It did get me thinking about how iconic the series was, not only for inspiring a generation of women to have a certain hairstyle but for its references still used today- hands up who knows someone super organised that gets called out for doing a Monica every now and then!

We are asked to tweet our favourite quote during the night and although I was never one to quote my favourite lines at school like I remember some avid fans doing I still wasn’t short of my favourites. Pipping Rachel’s ‘it’s not that common, it doesn’t happen to everybody and it IS a big deal!’ To the top spot was Joeys attempt at French, purely as the whole episode has my laughing all the way through and when I struggle to pronounce something I use ‘une floof de flief’ to make me and whoever I’m with smile! (It always means I get away with pronouncing Carbonara wrongly, especially infront of Mr E’s Italian Nanna)
Needless to say we both had a great evening and promptly got to Facebook to see if any of our friends had the box set and proceeded to spend the weekend after that catching up and watching the series in order, thanks to our friend Katie’s Collection (I’m giving her the Friends mug we were kindly gifted on the night to say thanks!)

It really did make me smile and was a great enjoyable way to spend an evening after work! I’m inspired to make sure I make the effort to do a little more after work sometimes to continue smiling especially as I enter my usual hibernation period of September to November!
