I’ve been debating writing about eyeliners for a while now as I’ve recently discovered the joys of them! I can’t believe it was only a year ago when I never used to wear any, I actually can’t fathom it. So when Rimmel sent me their new Scandaleyes Eyeliners and Reloaded Mascaras* to review it gave me the push to talk about my new found love.

So the main excitement for me came from the Thick and Thin Eyeliner (RRP £5.59) which I thought may be dual ended but is in fact more magical and is basically like a calligraphy pen, so depending on the way you hold it depends on if you get a thin or thick line. The idea is that it makes it perfect for a flick as you just turn the pen as you go.

I won’t lie it took a bit of practise for me to get going with it, as it was quite hard on my skin at first. I then drew on some paper with it to press down and then it was much softer and easier to work with. Still not quite as soft as the other as you can see a bit in the photo (the thick/thin one is at the bottom of the photo) as it has a blunted end vs the fine liner more gradual tip. I find the flicks with the thick/thin work better if you work from your inner eye outwards, and that’s not the way I like to do my flicks, but if it’s how you do yours then this is perfect for you as there’s no fiddly fine edged liner to be messing around with and making mistakes with!

If you like to start with the flick like me (or is it just me!???) the then the Precision Micro Eyeliner is the one. It was a much softer nib and it really did enable me to create such a fine line at the end of my flick I was very impressed! For £5.49 I don’t think you can go wrong- I’ve been using a similar Eyeko product that costs over double that! Also the Eyeko one smudges and so far this does not (well not halfway through the day, anyways!)it claims to have up to 24hours wear, be waterproof and smudge proof, and to be fair the parts that were on my skin (not on top of layers of eyeshadow) stayed put all night and was there in the morning – yep I slept in my makeup, I should know better but a girls gotta have a bad habit or two! I would say there is some fade but again for that long I’d expect that.

Now onto the mascaras, these have been ‘reloaded’ to give a long lasting look but one thats removed easily with just water. Now I hadn’t used the originals so have nothing to compare them to in that respect, but they weren’t my favourites. Initially I found them to be a bit wet, so when I flicked my eyelashes onto the brush which is what I tend to do at the start, it flicked mascara down my cheek. I started to roll more and found that wasn’t as bad though, and after persevering I have found they are actually quite buildable. I won’t lie I think I had to keep going to get the kind of look I like though. Although when I went to touch up Eyeliner straight after applying it, just moving the eyelashes near made them clump together as it was very wet still. I did find if they were left to dry they do give lashes a nice natural look, with not a lot of building, making them have no clumps, and a natural length to them.

I did find that they lasted the day, and being able to remove them with just some warm water was fab! They haven’t made it into my top ten though, which actually is all mainly higher price point mascaras so for £6.99 each it would still be worth giving them a go if you’re looking for more of a budget mascara.

Let me know if you try any, and if you have a favourite Eyeliner as I’m always up for finding out about new ones!
