January is always a pretty dull month so when I received an invite to my first ever murder mystery event at The Hilton Leeds courtesy of Posh Flooring and Search Labs it meant I had the perfect thing to look forward to.
Especially as the dress code was dress to impress! I’d thought about what to wear for a verrrrry long time but as my back/shoulder was strapped the week before I figured I should wear something with sleeves and a full back so I wasn’t exposing my Rock Tape to everyone.

It narrowed my options a little but then I saw this Lovedrobe number hanging up UNWORN! There’s a story behind this dress, myself and GG went shopping after a listening group with New Look. It was the same day she tried THE velvet maxi dress in in Evans which she looked stunning in. The rest is very much history now as they say. It was after that I saw this beautiful dress in Simply Be. I’m a sucker for burgundy and GG made me try it on and I very nearly bought it, but at £89 and with no where to go I just couldn’t justify buying it. Skip forward to the end of last January and lo behold Dorothy Perkins put it I the sale and it was under £30. At that point I didn’t think twice about it! I’m so glad I got it as it was perfect for this event!

I added the black Pom Pom flats from my princess shoes post , my black furry Fiorelli handbag (aptly named Gorilla Balls- go figure) and my furry stole from Simply Be. Basically a fur and sequin overload. Here I am with the beauts Georgina and Mary in the pre mystery photo booth!

Loved it. So I know you are wondering how on earth I got invited to a murder mystery by a flooring company?! Well i was lucky enough to sit next to Dan from Posh Flooring who explained that they were thinking of an event to link to flooring and came upon a murder mystery, as at a murder scene you are pretty much looking at the floor – so it was a good if not slightly tenuous link but I liked it!

I did think they could have borrowed Herbie my cat and let him loose in the room then EVERYONE would be looking at the floor. No, not cos he’s super cute (but he is God dammit) but more cos he refuses to be litter trained so you’d be constantly looking to make sure you didn’t step in his presents. Yup. Welcome to my world.

See. Cute.

Anyways we did look at the floor though (maybe not quite as much as me on the 6am morning hopscotch across my house!) because as soon as we were seated the victim came stumbling in and proceeded to collapse and pop his clogs in front of us right on the dance floor of the room. It was amazing how the chalked outline predicted where he was going to fall too!!

Digging the velvet.

Now you’ve got to hand it to olden day detectives they arrived blooming fast in those days! Sherlock was there in seconds with the police, to talk us through what we needed to do! It involved questioning, pocket searches, looking at evidence and dusting for fingerprints and criminal record checks amongst other things. We saw mix tapes (well turns out it wasn’t but I liked to think it was), cctv footage and handwritten love notes (turns out we crossed a few decades in this case!) however none of it was enough and we missed exploring a vital clue!

Now I can’t tell you who dunnit especially as we didn’t get it right, and yes, we were the only team not to. If I’m being honest we found out more about who was having it off with who rather than anything else! Typical of me really!

I also go distracted by the food #sorrynotsorry can you blame me? So yeah we weren’t that great. But hey what you gonna do.

We had a fab laugh at it all and a managed to have a bit of a chatter inbetween. It was super hilarious when the winners came in to depict the story of how it happened, Lorna was perfect as Sherlock!

I must admit I was slightly grateful we didn’t win. Am Dram is not my forte.

Afterwards we went off into the night for some cocktails, more chin wagging and of course, posing.

Outfit shot photo bombs!  (Photos Georgina!)

Such a fabulous afternoon into evening spent in fab company and I also confirmed that I tend to over analyse things – as my workmates said ‘no S*** Sherlock!’ Excuse the starry word but it doesn’t really work with anything else!

I’d recommend and would definitely attend anothe mirder mystery evening, this one was put on by The Murder Mystery Company and they were all such good sports which really helped make it. Our hosts Jennie and Alice were fab as was Dan who handled himself well on a table full of lady bloggers, bless him. (Shout out to Natalie too for some of the photos used in this post, she did a fab job of official photographer for the day!) We were also sent away with a. Goodie bag with chocolates, bath bomb ,posh door sign and a wooden own which I now can’t stop staring at in meetings (how do they get the pen in the wood??).

You can read a bit more about it here and I must say this is going to take some beating as its holding the title of best 2016 event!
