For those of you that subscribe to Birchbox you may already be familiar with the brand Silk and Honey from June’s box where a fresh ready made sample of their Shea Butter Hair Conditioning Mask was inside some of the boxes.

I wasn’t fortunate enough to get the hair mask in my box so the founder of Silk + Honey , Sharonda, was kind enough to send me one to try out.

Sharonda started the company after sharing her tips on her own blog and with friends and family.
The company was started in February this year and it’s purpose is to provide luxury natural kits to enable customers to make their own all natural creams and cosmetics.

I love the idea of a kit you can buy to make your own products and currently there’s four types on offer, the hair mask, Shimmering Body Cream , Anti-Ageing Hand Cream and Natural Lip Gloss . Prices range from £35 (product to make at least 13 tubes of lip gloss!) to £65 (5x100g hand cream pots) and the other 2 are both £55 each.
I tried out the hair mask* first, I like that even the premade samples had a suggested use by date and I easily used the sample size up before that date neared! I got 3 uses out of the sample size pot- considering I have long hair and like to use a lot of conditioner. It smells amazing with the main contributor to that being honey and I liked the idea of putting something fresh on my hair with no synthetic smell like previous hair masks I’ve used.
I applied a third over all my hair after shampooing instead of conditioner and it did I fab job. It smoothed my hair and made it easy to straighten. It also helped rescue my dry hair after I had been swimming at Brighton Beach and rocked the surf spray hair the day after at Wireless Festival. My hair could have been easily dried out, but it wasn’t once I’d got home and used this and my new favourite shampoo (post coming soon on that one!)I got lots of compliments on my hair the day after using it so they are definitely a winning combo!

The other product that was sent to me in this gorgeous Silk + Honey linen drawstring bag was the Shimmering Body Cream *. I was a little more apprehensive about getting stuck into this one as the last time shimmering and body cream were in a product I used was when the Spice Girls were in the charts, but if the Buffalo trainer can come back (yes, really! Google it they’re on the rise again!) I figured I could try a cream with shimmer in it again.
Luckily for me this didn’t take me back to the days of hair mascara and Union Jack dresses, as the shimmer was very subtle and helped give a dewy look to my skin.
I tried to capture it here the best I could:

This cream smells amazing as well and had a lavender scent to it. Again it had a use by which thanks to my laziness ( and said trip to Brighton meaning I needed to use after sun for a long time after) meant I didn’t get very near to doing. I managed to use it about 4 times before giving the rest to my mum who is much less lazy and moisturises every day to finish before it’s use by.
She loved it too and didn’t mention the shimmer so like I say it’s not in your face! The Mica is the part that provides the ‘glow’ according to the Silk + Honey Website and it did it’s job of moisturising well, although I didn’t ditch the Aloe Vera aftersun for it, it was a good everyday moisturiser for normal- dry skin.
